{"id":8,"date":"2007-10-31T05:13:16","date_gmt":"2007-10-31T12:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.alienoverlord.com\/?p=8"},"modified":"2008-01-23T17:17:39","modified_gmt":"2008-01-24T00:17:39","slug":"freeway-overpass-earthquake-alarming-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.alienoverlord.com\/?p=8","title":{"rendered":"Freeway overpass + earthquake = alarming experience!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">Tonight just after 8pm there was a\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/earthquakes.usgs.gov\/eqcenter\/recenteqsus\/Quakes\/nc40204628.php\" title=\"earthquake\">5.6 earthquake<\/a>, and it occured while I was driving home. \u00c2\u00a0On a very high, very long, curvy freeway cloverleaf type junction ramp, going from I-280 to Hwy 101 in South SanJose, going south. \u00c2\u00a0Right\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?ie=UTF8&amp;hl=en&amp;msa=0&amp;ll=37.338133,-121.852713&amp;spn=0.005434,0.007939&amp;t=h&amp;z=17&amp;om=1&amp;msid=104148316272367327594.00043dc37140cd9c46fdb\" title=\"google map\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Here&#8217;s a picture:<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.alienoverlord.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/freeway.jpg\" title=\"I280-to-101 junction\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.alienoverlord.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/freeway.jpg\" alt=\"I280-to-101 junction\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.alienoverlord.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/freeway.jpg\" title=\"I280-to-101 junction\"><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"> I&#8217;m zooming along, probably faster than I should&#8217;ve been going, around 80 MPH, when all of a sudden the car jumps, as if I hit a huge dip in the road &#8211; the back wheels lost traction for a moment and, since I was going around a curving incline, the car jerked back and forth. \u00c2\u00a0Then it felt as if there was a really, REALLY strong wind, but then I realized the whole overpass was swaying. \u00c2\u00a0What a weird feeling. \u00c2\u00a0Scary. \u00c2\u00a0This overpass thing is really high, like, I think as high as a 10-story building. \u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s got a great view of the mountains to the east and the end of the valley (with the freeway running though it of course). \u00c2\u00a0I thank the engineers who made it, cause I&#8217;m still here to tell about it. \u00c2\u00a0The whole thing only lasted a few seconds. \u00c2\u00a0I figured it was an earthquake when I saw several cars pull off the road at the base of the ramp. \u00c2\u00a0 So it wasn&#8217;t just me&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Later, closer to home, I saw worker types inspecting a small bridge over Hwy 1. \u00c2\u00a0When I got home and checked the USGS site, I found that the epicenter was about 7.5 miles away, right in the hills to the east and north.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight just after 8pm there was a\u00c2\u00a05.6 earthquake, and it occured while I was driving home. \u00c2\u00a0On a very high, very long, curvy freeway cloverleaf type junction ramp, going from I-280 to Hwy 101 in South SanJose, going south. \u00c2\u00a0Right\u00c2\u00a0here.
